Importante for City Council 2026 ("the Campaign," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to voteimportante.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Contact form submissions — name, email address, and any message content you submit

  • Newsletter/updates signup — your email address, and name if provided

  • Appointment scheduling — when you book an appointment through our scheduling tool (Acuity Scheduling), we collect your name, email address, phone number, and any details you provide about the appointment

  • Donations — when you contribute through our website, payment processing is handled by Squarespace Payments. We receive your name, mailing address, contribution amount and date, and, where required by law (see below), your occupation and employer. We do not directly collect or store your credit card or bank account information — that is handled by Squarespace's payment infrastructure.

Information collected automatically:

  • We use Google Analytics (or similar tools) to understand how visitors use the Site, including pages visited, time on site, and general location (city/region level). This may involve cookies or similar tracking technologies. You can limit this by adjusting your browser settings or using a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts.

Important: Political Contributions Are Public Record

This is different from a typical commercial privacy policy, and we want to be upfront about it. Under California's Political Reform Act and FPPC regulations, campaign committees are legally required to publicly disclose certain contributor information in periodic campaign finance filings. If you contribute:

  • $100 or more, your name and address will appear on public campaign finance disclosure reports

  • Amounts above certain thresholds also require your occupation and employer, which will likewise become part of the public record

These reports are filed with the City of Port Hueneme and/or the California Secretary of State and are generally searchable by the public, press, and opposing campaigns. This disclosure is required by law — the Campaign cannot make it optional or keep it confidential, regardless of what you request. If you have questions about how this applies to a specific contribution, contact us before donating.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your inquiries and communicate with you about the campaign

  • Send email updates to those who sign up for our newsletter

  • Process and legally report campaign contributions as required by California law

  • Manage appointment scheduling

  • Understand and improve how people use our Site

  • Comply with campaign finance and election law reporting obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

We use the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy practices governing information they process on our behalf:

  • Squarespace — website hosting and donation payment processing

California Privacy Rights

Depending on the nature of our operations, some California privacy law provisions (such as the CCPA) may not apply in full to political campaign committees the way they apply to commercial businesses. That said, we aim to honor the spirit of these protections: you may contact us to ask what information we hold about you or to request correction of inaccurate contact information, subject to our obligation to maintain accurate public campaign finance records where legally required.

Children's Privacy

Our Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect, including relying on the security infrastructure of our third-party service providers (Squarespace, Acuity, Google). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
